We love working with the latest and greatest in technology and roofing solutions. The benefits pass onto our customers – and this new pre-painted metal roofing and cladding material is no exception.

The next generation, Activate™ Technology combines with the original, consistent quality of COLORSTEEL®, resulting in Maxam™. This superior roofing material provides more corrosion resistance of its kind, than ever before, with an increased durability and therefore an increased longevity.
What is Activate™ Technology?
In layman’s terms, a patented metallic coating that bonds to steel
Designed to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance, Activate™ technology consists of a high performance AM metallic coating, which bonds to the base steel, before the COLORSTEEL® paint system is applied.
In technical terms how does COLORSTEEL® Activate™ Technology work?
The addition of magnesium plus a unique composition and microstructure of the AM alloy coating
COLORSTEEL® has a metallic alloy coating of Aluminium (55%) and Zinc (45%) known as AZ, which provides barrier protection against corrosion.
What’s new in creating this high performance AM Metallic Coating is:
- The addition of magnesium
Forming the AM metallic alloy coating consisting of aluminium, zinc and magnesium. - A unique composition and microstructure of the alloy coating
This delivers an enhanced corrosion resistance.
The magnesium compounds activate the metal coating, resulting in longer-lasting protection. All 3 compounds of aluminium, zinc and magnesium are strategically positioned, combining to activate when the weathering processes starts, encouraging the formation of a robust barrier at any cuts or scratches, slowing corrosion.
What is the lifespan for a Maxam™ roof vs a regular roof?
The longevity is increased by up to double (see chart below)
What’s the Best Roofing Product Available in NZ?
Maxam™ could be classed as one of the best roofing products currently available in NZ
‘Best’ is an ambiguous word, as it depends on the structure, environment and finish, you’re after. But if you are looking for a roof that fits a range of criteria, then COLORSTEEL® Maxam™ might be the right product for you.
Where can this new roofing material be used?
Pretty much anywhere
Maxam™ is designed and made in New Zealand for New Zealand conditions. With a range of profiles available it is suitable for commercial, industrial and residential application across a range of environments including, coastal areas, inland, industrial and urban settings.
The only exception is in extremely severe environments COLORSTEEL ALTIMATE® may be required.
What colour is Maxam™ available in?
The full range of COLORSTEEL® colours
With a new colour palette recently added, that’s over 20 colours to choose from. The multi-layering paint technology by COLORSTEEL® is designed to resist chalking and fading.
What are the COLORSTEEL® Metal Roofing Profiles?
The primary profiles available are corrogate, trapezoidal and tray
More technical information on Maxam™:
- Multi coated paint system is applied to AM150 ZINCALUME® steel substrate.
- Coated with a high performance AM metallic alloy coating, plus magnesium added to a nominal coating mass of 150g/m2 manufactured in accordance to AS1397:2013.
- Normally 0.40 mm or 0.55 mm base metal thickness.
- Ability to withstand tough environments due to:
- Organic 3-layered coating
- an anti-corrosive and bonding pre-treatment layer
- an anti-corrosive primer and a topcoat
- applied to both sides of the material
- Organic 3-layered coating
- Environmental Product Declaration available.
- Available in a range of profiles and all COLORSTEEL® colours.
- Exceptional resistance to chalking and fade with COLORSTEEL® paint technology
